🥒 What is Karela (Bitter Melon)?
Karela, also known as bitter melon or bitter gourd, is a green, ridged vegetable commonly used in Indian, Asian, and Caribbean cooking. It has a naturally bitter taste that becomes milder when cooked with spices, onions, or tomatoes.
Karela is known for its strong health benefits. It is especially valued in Punjabi households for its ability to support digestion and help maintain healthy blood sugar levels. The vegetable is firm on the outside, soft on the inside, and has a slightly crunchy texture when fried or sautéed.
